Two-time World and Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon stormed to victory at the Wanda Diamond League circuit season opener in Doha, Qatar on Friday 5 May.
She destroyed a strong field and cut the tape in 3:58.57 ahead of Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji who was chasing hot on her heels with plans to dethrone her.

Kipyegon missed the record by 0.3 seconds during last year's Diamond League Meeting in Monaco.
Welteji clocked 3:59.34 as her compatriot Freweyni Hailu sealed the podium by clocking 4:00.29.

Kipyegon started the race on a high note as she controlled the pace throughout. With the finish line in sight, she unleashed a finishing kick as she cruised comfortably to take the top honours.
This comes as a great motivation for her as she launches her campaign to defend her world title in Budapest later later on in the year.
Meanwhile, over the men’s 800m race, Wycliffe Kinyamal managed a second-place finish behind Algeria’s Slimane Moula.

Among the trio, Kinyamal is the fastest in the field with a Personal Best of 1:43.12.
Kinyamal, who controlled the pace for the better part of the race was defeated by Moula a few meters to the finish line.
In a post-race interview, he said: “I am pleased with my second place and the time I run, next I go home to prepare for the rest of the season, it's a big year.”
Over the 3000m SC women's race, Bahrain's Winfred Yavi took top honours as she crossed the finish line to set a world lead time of 9:04.38. Ethiopia's Sembo Alamayew took second place as Kenya's Faith Cherotich settled for third place. World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech managed a fourth-place finish.
In the men's 3000m, the Ethiopian trio of Lamecha Girma, Selemon Barega, and Barihu Aregawi swept the 1-2-3 positions respectively. 2019 world 1500m champion Timothy Cheuiyot placed fifth as Ishmael Kipukurui settled for ninth place.
