Youngster Faith Cherotich is looking forward to having world records and global titles to her name just like her mentor, Faith Kipyegon.

Reigning World Under-20 3000m Steeplechase bronze medallist Faith Cherotich is keenly following in the footsteps of double world record holder Faith Kipyegon.

The 19-year-old explained that Kipyegon has been mentoring her on how to be a great athlete and she looks forward to being a world record holder and holding multiple titles to her name.

Kipyegon calls Cherotich “small Faith” and she is surely in awe of her zeal to perform and go for the best.

“Faith Kipyegon has been mentoring me on how to be a good athlete. I want to be a champion, to follow her. She has been teaching me a lot. I really appreciate it,” Cherotich said as per World Athletics.

The reigning World Under-20 champion has achieved major milestones including winning a bronze medal on the global stage and also competing at the Diamond League Meetings.

Due to her dominant exploits this season, the youngster was also honoured with the women’s World Athletics Rising Star award by World Athletics.

“I am very happy and proud to receive this award. It was a very good year for me. It was my first World Championships and I was happy with how I ran. It was a good race for me,” the youngster said.

Her season began at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia, where she earned a silver medal in the women’s U20 team event, missing out on an individual medal by one place.

She then began her 2023 Diamond League season by finishing third in the opening meeting in Doha, Qatar.

However, a few weeks later her progress was traumatically undermined when the car she was travelling in to compete in another Diamond League meeting was involved in a collision with a runaway truck, leaving her with minor injuries.

“I had an accident in a car. But then I recovered, and I had three weeks to train before the World Championships trials. I was able to qualify, so that was good,” she said.
