Youngster Faith Cherotich is Kenya's sole representative at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels as she bids to silence Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi and Peruth Chemutai.

All hopes will rest on the Olympic 300m steeplechase bronze medallist Faith Cherotich to deliver the Diamond League final trophy as she lines up against a stacked field on Saturday, September 14 in Brussels.

Cherotich is looking to go one place better from her performance at last year’s Diamond League Meeting final that was held in Eugene, Oregon. At the event, the Kenyan youngster finished third behind Beatrice Chepkoech and Winfred Yavi who finished second and first respectively in the race.

The 20-year-old now heads to Brussels with tons of experience after a stellar season that saw her bag a bronze medal at the Olympic Games. Cherotich opened her season with a third-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen and proceeded to finish third at the Prefontaine Classic.

She outclassed a strong field at the Kenyan Olympic trials, taking the win ahead of the world record holder Chepkoech and Jackline Chepkoech. After her Paris Olympics exploits, Cherotich has raced only once, at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome where she finished third.

In a bid to continue her winning ways and hopefully shatter the world record, Yavi headlines the field after a great season. Yavi claimed her first Olympic title in Paris and continued her winning ways to the Diamond League Meeting in Rome where she almost shattered the world record. She clocked an impressive 8:44.39 to win the race ahead of Peruth Chemutai who will also be competing in Brussels.

After the race, Chemutai expressed interest in shattering the world record and as she heads to Brussels, she will be looking to dethrone Yavi and silence the Kenyan youngster. She finished second at the Paris Olympic Games, failing to defend her title and she has a chance to redeem herself in Brussels and end her season on a high.

Another athlete to watch will be Lomi Muleta, Ethiopia’s sole representative after her compatriot Sembo Almayew was denied a visa. Muleta will hope to impress after Ethiopia exited the Olympic stage with no medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
