Olympic champion Grant Holloway will return to Chesapeake for a celebratory homecoming event after winning gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Olympic 110m hurdles champion Grant Holloway will be welcomed home in a grand celebration hosted by the City of Chesapeake this Friday.

The 26-year-old Chesapeake native is being honored following his triumphant gold medal performance in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won the 110m hurdles with a time of 12.99 seconds.

This marks Holloway's first Olympic title, having previously taken home the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The homecoming event is set to take place on Friday, September 20, from 4-5:30 p.m. at Judge Eileen Olds Courtyard Park.

A statement from the city emphasizes that the event will be "free and open to the public," giving fans a chance to meet the champion.

“Photo opportunities and signed autographs will be available,” the statement added.

Chesapeake Mayor Rick West will be in attendance and will present Holloway with a special gift to commemorate his accomplishments and his role in proudly representing Chesapeake on the world stage.

Reflecting on his return home, Holloway said, "Looking back on the past couple of months, I have been blessed with so many beautiful moments away from home. I am excited to create even more joyful memories."

Holloway's journey to Olympic glory this season has been nothing short of remarkable.

Before his golden performance in Paris, the reigning world champion shattered the 60m hurdles world record earlier this year.

He also kept an unbeaten streak leading up to the Games, dominating at the Prefontaine Classic, the Monaco Diamond League Meeting, and the U.S. Olympic trials.

Following the Olympics, Holloway continued to shine, finishing second in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Galà dei Castelli and then winning at several other major meets, including the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich and the ISTAF 2024 in Berlin.

However, the season did not come without its ups and downs.

Holloway chose not to compete in the Diamond League final last weekend after he and event organizers could notcome to an agreement, reportedly due to issues with the financial terms offered.

In addition to his Olympic success, Holloway also secured the world championship title earlier in the year and continued to challenge top competitors like Rasheed Broadbell.

He started his Diamond League final campaign with a second-place finish behind Broadbell but bounced back quickly, winning in Silesia and continuing his impressive streak in Europe.

Despite missing out on the Diamond League final, Holloway has plenty to celebrate.

His first Olympic gold medal is a major career milestone and his record-breaking 60m hurdles performance solidifies his place among the greatest hurdlers in history.
