Letsile Tebogo has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mother Seratiwa Tebogo after claiming dominant win at the Monaco Diamond League.

Letsile Tebogo has disclosed that all his performances this season are in honour of his late mother, Seratiwa Tebogo, as he builds up to the Paris Olympic Games.

Tebogo lost his mother to a short illness and the season has been a bit of a challenge to him after he resumed competition last month at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

He was in action at the Monaco Diamond League where his comeback was unmatched as he obliterated a strong field to claim top honours in the men’s 200m. He stopped the clock at 19.87.

Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic finished second in a time of 20.02 while Uganda’s Gracious Orogot completed the podium in 20.32.

Speaking in a post-race interview, Tebogo explained that his focus is now going to the Olympic Games, where he hopes to make his late mother proud. He is confident of magic on the global stage since he is in good shape.

“The signs during my celebration were mainly for my mom. Everything I do now is for her, not for me. The race and crowd were really amazing. Now we just need to get to the Olympics with a healthy body,” Tebogo said.

“The race was perfect, we just shut it down and went to the line. I believe I am in the right shape for top performances, it´s good that the Olympics come about,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tebogo opened his season with a world record in the 300m at the Curro Podium Final, running faster than Michael Johnson and Usain Bolt. In the 100m, he competed at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix where he finished second before pulling out of the African Championships in semifinal.

He then raced at the 4° Meeting della Leonessa where he won before finishing second behind Kishane Thompson at the Gyulai István Memorial, a Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix.

He has only raced thrice in the 200m, opening his season at the ASA Athletics Grand Prix 3 with a win before finishing second at the Kip Keino Classic. Tebogo notched up his second victory at the Monaco Diamond League.
