At the 10km mark, Simiu had already made it clear that he was going for the title and his greatest challenger was Victor Togom who could not leave his side.

Togom was following Ebenyo toe to toe with the Kenyan working hard to open a gap. Passing the 15km mark, Togom took charge and was leading Ebenyo.

However, Ebenyo was not resting on his laurels and passing the 19km mark, he took charge and worked tirelessly to open a wide gap between himself and Togom. With the finish line in sight, it was clear that Ebenyo would take the top prize.

Meanwhile, the women’s race also saw Sutume Kebede of Ethiopia take the win in a new course record time.

World record holder Yalemzerf Yehualaw finished second. Betty Kibet completed the podium in the women’s race.
