Eliud Magut and Cynthia Limo defied all odds to claim top honours in the men's and women's races respectively at the Nairobi City Marathon.
Eliud Magut and Cynthia Limo will be smiling to the bank after their efforts paid off well with dominant wins in the full marathon at the Nairobi City Marathon on Sunday morning.
Magut and Limo will pocket Ksh 3.5 million each, thanks to their perseverance and hard work to emerge top in their respective races. Magut clocked 2:09:47 to win the men’s race and Limo won the women’s race in a time of 2:28:02.
Passing the 21km mark, the men’s race saw Geoffrey Chirchir lead the pack, as he split 1:05:08 ahead of Kelvin Kipchoge. Eliud Magut was running in third at the point with Victor Rotich running in fourth place.

More than Ksh 20 million set aside for top finishers at Nairobi City Marathon
The Nairobi City Marathon comes up on Sunday, September with millions of prize money set aside for the top 20 finishers in the full marathon.
At the 30km mark, Chirchir still held onto the mantle, leading the pack. Kipchoge and Rotich were also running in second and third places respectively with Magut having been pushed to fourth place.
However, as the athletes approached the finish line, it was Eliud Magut who claimed the win dominantly, clocking 2:09:47 with Josphat Bett coming in second in a time of 2:10:01. Emmanuel Sikuku came in third with a time of 2:10:05 as Kiprono Byegon finished fourth in 2:10:06.
As the women passed the 13km mark, Mercy Kamau was leading the pack with Leah Cheruto running in second place. Hellen Chepkorir and Gladys Cheruto were running in third and fourth place at the time.

At the 21km mark, Cheruto had taken charge of the race with Chepkorir and Cheruto running in second and third places respectively. Kamau had been dropped and could not be traced in the first pack.
As the athletes passed the 30km mark, Cheruto held onto the lead with Chepkorir running in second place. Lilian Chebii came from behind and was now running in third place with Jeruto closely behind her.
After the 30km mark, Cynthia Limo was on a mission as she decided to take the bold step and run a solo race to the finish line. She clocked 2:28:02 to finish first ahead of Lilian Chebii who clocked 2:28:29. Peris Jerono rounded up the podium, clocking 2:30:43.

The women’s race saw Marion Kibor claim the win, clocking 1:08:52 to cross the finish line ahead of Gladys Chepkurui who came in second in a time of 1:08:57. Sharon Kiptugen rounded up the podium with a 1:09:20 finish.
