ATHLETICS Why Kelvin Kiptum snubbed all other distances to run the marathon
Kelvin Kiptum is one of the unique cases of athletes who start their careers with road races and he has explained the reason behind his decision.
He explained that you need to have the right systems in order to achieve your goals. He added that the moment you lack the right systems, you will struggle to be successful in life.
“I think success is the mastery of what you are trying to do…however, you need to do it, you need to have the right systems for success to come in. You need to stamp your authority and cement your place in what you are good at,” Kipchoge said.
The five-time Berlin Marathon champion noted that everyone has their own definition of success. He added that the small steps eventually lead to greater achievements but as an individual, you cannot wake up one day and decide that you are successful.
“Success is there but you cannot sit and wait for success. You have to be prepared and well-planned…you also need to be capable of grabbing success.
It is there but I believe pure and clean planning are the only things that might bring you success,” Kipchoge added.
The four-time London Marathon champion insisted that everyone begins from somewhere and they should always make sure they get better in their craft.

After his dominant display at the Chicago Marathon, Kelvin Kiptum shared what was going on in his mind during the race.
He cited the example of athletes having different targets when going to compete. “One can run 2:10:00 and that will be a success for them, others run 2:05:00 or 2:01:00 and that’s their definition of success,” he explained.
