Five-time Berlin champion Eliud Kipchoge has shared his thoughts on why he thinks the Berlin Marathon makes for the best ground to break world records as he misses this year's event.

The Berlin Marathon is famously known for its world shattering records with Marathon icon Eliud Kipchoge famously being one of them.

Kipchoge has smashed the world record twice one in 2018 and the second being in 2022 where he smashed his 2018 record

The five-time Berlin Marathon Champion has shared his thoughts on why he thinks the Berlin Marathon is the most conducive event for breaking world records.

"The track in Berlin is great for running, that's why we see many records broken there," he told NTV

"But secondly the people living in Berlin have a great culture of running. Running is in their DNA and it is fully understood. They participate in cheering the runners."

"Thirdly it is the best organization. Everybody wants to run there. We have 50,000 people running every year. They put their budget into it. That's the special thing with Berlin. That's the beauty of Berlin," he added.

Kipchoge has missed this year's Berlin Marathon and will be watching from the sidelines as new champion is crowned.

"I thought I would be there ( in Berlin) but due to unavoidable circumstance I couldn't fly to Germany and be among those who will be celebrating half a century since the inception of Berlin Marathon. I wish all the champions all the best," said Kipchoge
