Following his Paris Olympic setback, Eliud Kipchoge remains motivated to return stronger next season, taking a gradual approach to training while aiming to complete the six major marathons.

Following his Paris Olympic Games setback, Eliud Kipchoge is motivated to keep going as he eyes a better run next season.

In an exclusive interview with Olympics.com, Eliud Kipchoge believes that he still has more left in the tank to do something astounding before exiting the Olympic stage. He has already resumed training but this time around, he will be taking things slowly.

At the Olympic Games, the five-time Berlin Marathon champion failed to impress as he pulled out of the race after the 30km mark, the first time he has ever failed to finish a marathon race.

“I have resumed training for the last three weeks, but it’s slowly by slowly. I want to peak slowly, then try to move on slowly,” Eliud Kipchoge said.

“I am still motivated. I still want to do something. But I want to get into fitness slowly, peak slowly, and come back to running.”

Quashing the retirement rumours, Eliud Kipchoge insisted that there is still more he can do, insisting that he wants to run more races and accomplish his goal of running the six world marathon majors. At the moment, the New York City Marathon is the only major race he is yet to run.

He already has five titles from Berlin, four from the London and one title from the Tokyo which he won in 2022 but upon his return this season, he could only manage a 10th-place finish.

Eliud Kipchoge also claimed top honours at the 2014 Chicago Marathon and raced at the 2023 Boston Marathon where he finished sixth.

“A lot is in front of me. I still want to become fit and run some... few marathons. I'm concentrating purely on coming back to my normal fitness,” Kipchoge said.

“Even if I don’t do [it] when I'm still active, I will go one day and jog and run for a course, or for something which can promote humanity in New York and get a Six Star medal.”
