The sixth and final leg of Athletics Kenya' cross country series was marked by a showdown in Kisii with Edwin Bett and Diana Chepkorir emerging victorious.
Edwin Bett emerged victorious in the senior men’s race at the sixth Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country meet held on Saturday at the Cardinal Otunga Mosocho grounds in Kisii County.
The event, which marked the final leg of the 2024/25 AK Cross Country Series, attracted over 700 athletes competing for glory.

Chebet, who won two gold medals at the Paris Olympic games, has been forced to relocate to Iten for training, bemoaning the sorry state of Kericho's facilities which have left athletes from that county at a big disadvantage.
Bett delivered an outstanding performance, clocking at 29:55.8, to register his second victory of the series, outpacing a strong field that included previous cross country champion Asbel Kiprop, who secured second place with a time of 30:05.6.
The world cross country series runner had to summon his best effort to fend off Kiprop’s relentless challenge and claim his second crowning moment. His fisrst came in Kapsokwony during the second leg on October 26, 2024
Reflecting on his victory Bett expressed his excitement as he readily shifted focus to the upcoming10km road race in Germany in February.
"I won in Kapsokwony and finished second in Bomet and now I have won again," he shared
"I’m satisfied with my performance so far. My next race will be in German in February where i will compete in 10km Road race," he added.
Francis Langat completed the podium, finishing third in the highly competitive senior men’s race.
In the women’s senior category, world road running specialist Diana Chepkorir showcased her prowess by, clocking 33:05.4 to clint the title a second time, her first being in the Machakos.
"This is a good built up for me, this is my second victory in the series, after winning Machakos. I’m looking forward to good season on track," she reflected
Chepkorir overcame competition from Janeth Jepngetich, who finished second, and Gladys Kwamboka, who claimed the third spot.

The men’s U20 8km race saw Emmanuel Lemiso secure victory, with Emmanuel Yegon and Ronald Kipkoech taking second and third places, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the women’s U20 category, Joyline Chepkemoi emerged triumphant, with Cynthia Chepkirui and Diana Chepkemoi rounding off the podium.
The meet capped off an exhilarating AK Cross Country Series, serving as a crucial platform for athletes to test their mettle ahead of upcoming international competitions.
