He failed to reach the final of the men’s 800m at the just-concluded World Championships.

Emmanuel Korir went into the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary with the hope of defending his title but his mission failed miserably since he was suffering from an injury setback.

He failed to reach the final of the men’s 800m since he was knocked out in the Heats after finishing fourth. However, the 28-year-old is yet to give up on his dream of attacking David Rudisha’s world record.

He might be having injury challenges at the moment but come next year, Korir has promised attempts to break the world record that currently stands at 1:40.91 and was set by Rudisha during the 2012 London Olympics.

In an interview with Nation Sport, Korir made his intentions clear on his plans to attack the world record if all conditions allow.

“It’s been my hope to break the world record and I’m still on it…I’m still working on it. I’m sure that with good health, maybe next year we are going to do something.

So, I’m still going for the world record…the indoor maybe earlier this year and the outdoor I will also try to do my best,” Korir said.

With his focus on next year’s Paris Olympic Games, Korir will have to dig deep to defend his title and also put in extra effort if he has to break the world record.

Meanwhile, unlike other athletes who progress to go to long-distance races, Korir also noted that he will be looking forward to going down to the 400m since it’s one of his favourite races.

“Most athletes advance to longer races but for me going forward, I want to run in the 400m. It’s one of my favourite races and I like doing the 400m a lot,” he said.
