Diamond League break down new and improved prize money structure for 2025

Diamond League organisers have given a further breakdown on how the increased prize money will be allocated.

The Wanda Diamond League has announced a new and improved prize money structure with larger rewards from 2025.

The improved structure will see more athletes earning prize money with an improved amount for select competitions. In a series of the diamond disciples, athletes will continue earning the usual, $ 10,000.

The final Diamond League meeting in these events will also maintain the prize money of $30,000.

Event organisers announced that from 2025, there will also be diamond and discipines where athletes will have an opportunity of earning a higher prize money.

In those disciplines, it was revealed that the maximum prize for individual athletes will be $ 20,000. In the final meeting, athletes will earn $ 50,000. 

It was further announced that there will be four, two male and female each, diamond disciplines at each meeting and eight, four male and female each,  at each series meeting and eight at the final.

In the first half of the year, every event organiser will announce their diamond and disciplines. It was also revealed that the prize money will increase in all the disciplines and in some circumstances, it will be double. This will happen for athletes finishing im third places going forward.

Those athletes who finish between ninth and 12th will receive a fixed prize money in all the meetings including the final.

The prize money has not affected any gender with the same rates applying for female and male runners.

Meanwhile, the Diamond League organisers had revealed that the new season will see a total of about $9.24 million released as prize money, making it the highest amount in history.

The amount also includes the promotional fees for top athletes, with a total of around $18 million being set aside.

It was further noted that around $6 million  will be set aside for athletes services like travel and transport, accommodation and medical and physio provision.
