World 800m record holder David Rudisha has admitted that Scottish athletes give Kenyans sleepless nights, forcing them to train hard to beat them during competitions.

Rudisha noted that Laura Muir gives double world record holder a run for her money during events and Josh Kerr is also coming up well.

The Olympic champion also explained that 1500m runners from Kenya including Reynold Cheruiyot, Timothy Cheruiyot, and Abel Kipsang are also doing well.

“Kenyans are also doing very well, especially in the middle distance and we usually have very tough competition between Kenyan and British athletes like Laura Muir and Faith Kipyegon and Josh Kerr and Ferguson Rotich.

“We have the 1500m athletes in Kenya who are also doing well. This kind of competition makes our Kenyan athletes have sleepless nights that they have to work hard to beat them,” Rudisha said in an interview.

Rudisha, who was the international ambassador for the World Athletics Indoor Championships, attended the annual Allan Scally Memorial Road Relay Race where he mentored young runners.

Making remarks on the races he said: “I’m told that this is one of the oldest sports that people have been doing every year and I’m glad to be part of this sport this year.

“It is very impressive to see so many people turn up for this event and it is proof that sports is one of the special activities that people are doing here.”

Meanwhile, Shettleston Harriers president and club Coach Elaine Mackay said: "Having David join us for the Allan Scally Road Relay Race is a real treat.

“His presence will undoubtedly inspire our runners and add an extra layer of excitement to this already eagerly anticipated event.”
