The Kip Keino Classic champion also emphasized teamwork ahead of the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

With just nine days to go till the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu is sharpening his talons to ensure he reclaims Kenya’s lost glory in both the 5000m and 10,000m races.

As he prepares for the daunting assignment, Simiu has no worries because he will enjoy the company of Diamond League champion Nicholas Kimeli, whom he has termed his greatest strength.

The duo will be competing in both the 5000m and 10,000m and Simiu believes having Kimeli by his side is all he needs to make a statement in Central Europe.

“My greatest strength is having Kimeli in my left, right, and front…that will be absolutely amazing for me. We shall be competing in the 10,000m for the first time and I think working with him is perfect.

"We are friends and neighbors so during the National Trials, I requested him to help me to separate men from boys. He cooperated and that’s how I made the cut to finish second in the 10,000m,” Simiu said.

The Kip Keino Classic champion also emphasized teamwork ahead of the global event.

“I take every competition as a serious game and I always prepare very well. I see the future is greater in the 10,000m.

"We can’t promise anything at the World Championships but I strongly embrace the spirit of teamwork because my good shape can win titles but when we work together, we shall win many medals,” he added.
