Mateiko’s time was nine seconds inside the previous world lead set by compatriot Benard Kibet in February.
In a post-race interview with BBC, Mateiko said: "The race was my preparation for the Chicago Marathon. I am very happy because this is my win first at the international level and I am looking forward to bigger things happening to me, especially in Chicago."
Meanwhile, the women’s race was won by Ethiopia's Mestawut Fikir who clocked a Personal Best time of 66:44. Another Kenyan, Evaline Chirchir took second while Hannah Irwin settled for third place.
Meanwhile, in other races, Roncer Kipkorir also reigned supreme at the 21K Buenos Aires 2023 Half Marathon.
Kipkorir led a Kenyan 1-2-3 podium sweep as he clocked a Personal Best time of 59:08. The duo of Felix Kipkoech and Cosmas Mwangi finished second and third in respective times of 59:28 and a Personal Best time of 59:29.
