The women's race was a tight a contest as Cynthia Chepngeno was pushed all the way by Gladys Chekoech and Catherine Reline.

Cynthia Chepngeno emerged victorious in the women's third leg of Athletics Kenya's (AK) cross-country series in Iten.

Chepngeno shook off Gladys Chepkoech and Cathrine Reline in second and third place respectively.

The race was fiercely contested as all three athletes were still banded together towards the business end of the race.

It was a sprint finish from the trio as Chepngeno had that last bit of burst of energy to claim victory.

"I was very worried because this was my first cross-country of the season. After this race I want to improve on speed hopefully. I don't know what's next still," said Chepngeno after her victory in Iten.
