The AFN have invited 33 athletes to Abuja camp in preparation for the upcoming African Games in Ghana, headlined by Olajide Olayinka and Emmanuel Consider Ekanem.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has invited a strong list of athletes led by Nigeria's leading sprinter Consider Ekanem to the Abuja camp in preparation for the African Games.
Ekanem and the athletes invited were selected based on their performances this season, especially at the AFN/MTN CHAMPS African Games trials held in Asaba.
The speedster tops the Nigerian list this season with 10.10s in the 100m and 200m best of 20.43s - the fastest 200m in Nigeria in the last eight years.
Leading the women's category is Olajide Olayinka who has also been exceptional this year, dropping her lifetime bests with each meet and each race.
In the 100m, she has the fastest time by a Nigerian with a Personal Best of 11.19s, a massive improvement from the 11.37s she ran in Lagos. While in the 200m, she has progressed from 23.31s to 23.27s, and now 23.24s (PB).
Others on the 33 invited list are veterans Patience George, Samuel Kure, Samson Nathaniel, among others.
