Athletics enthusiasts will be treated to a looming showdown as Athletics Kenya have revealed when Mark Otieno and Ferdinand Omanyala will lock horns.

The much-anticipated showdown between Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala and former national champion Mark Otieno is finally here and fans should brace themselves for a thrilling showdown.

Both Omanyala and Otieno have confirmed participation in the third Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meet set to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium on January 26 and 27 (Friday and Saturday).

Omanyala has signed up for the 200m only while Otieno has confirmed participation in the 100m and 200m races as they both seek to stamp authority and impress their fans.

Omanyala’s younger brother, Isaac Omurwa, will go head to head with Otieno in the 100m races while Omanyala will face off against Otieno in the 200m.

Meanwhile, Omanyala already opened his 2024 season at the second Athletics Kenya meet where he competed in the 400m race. The African champion has from time to time shared a sneak peek into his training sessions and his fans will be expecting outstanding performances from him.

He has already set targets ahead of the Olympic Games after a mixed season last year where his major setback was failing to bag a medal at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. However, he became the first Kenyan to reach the final of the 100m in the global bonanza.

As for Otieno, he is just fresh-from welcoming his new born son with his wife and he will be hoping to continue counting his blessings as he steps foot on the track.

Otieno’s ban ended mid last year and he started training immediately. He has so far raced once and is yet to step foot on the track this season. Many will be on the stands to cheer him on as he makes a full comeback to the track.
