Team Kenya's performance at the Paris Olympic Games was slightly better than the performance at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the LA 2028 Olympic Games promising better results.

Ferdinand Omanyala, Faith Kipyegon, Zeddy Jerotich and Julius Yego are some of the athletes in action at the Paris Olympic Games, donning the Kenyan colours.

The Kenya Sevens Rugby national team was the first to bow out of the Olympic Games, finishing ninth as France impressed on home turf. Jerotich and Alexandra Ndolo also exited the stage with no medals but tons of experience.

Track and field was the only category that earned Kenya medals and secured the second position on the medal table behind Team USA. Kenya also topped the medal standings in Africa. Overall, Team Kenya finished 17th with 11 medals.

Beatrice Chebet became the first Kenyan to win Kenya a gold medal with Faith Kipyegon earning a silver in the women’s 5000m. Chebet extended the winning streak to claim a gold medal in the 10,000m as Kipyegon successfully defended her title in the women’s 1500m.

Youngster Emmanuel Wanyonyi claimed the gold medal in the men’s 800m final, placing the total number of gold medals to four.

On top of Kipyegon’s silver medal in the 5000m, Ronald Kwemoi won another silver medal in the men’s 5000m. Kenya bagged the highest number of bronze medals, with Mary Moraa beginning the campaign in the women’s 800m.

Faith Cherotich also claimed a bronze in the women’s 3000m Steeplechase with Abraham Kibiwott and Benson Kipruto claiming the bronze in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase and marathon respectively. Hellen Obiri summed up Kenya’s medals with a bronze medal in the women’s marathon.

Surprisingly, Kenya performed well at the Paris Olympic Games as compared to the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

In Tokyo, Kenya managed to win 10 medals, with Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Korir winning the 1500m and 800m respectively. Peres Jepchirchir and Eliud Kipchoge won gold medals in the marathon.

Hellen Obiri won Kenya a silver medal in the women’s 5000m as Ferguson Rotich and Brigid Kosgei finished second in the 800m and marathon respectively. Timothy Cheruiyot summed up the silver medallists with his 1500m second-place finish.

Benjamin Kigen and Hyvin Kiyeng finished third in the men’s and women’s 3000m Steeplechase to sum up Kenya’s campaign in Tokyo.
