As many athletes start their Olympic campaigns today, Coach Alex Sang has expressed worry about one major thing that might affect their chances of posting impressive performances at the Paris Olympics.

Mary Moraa’s coach Alex Sang has revealed the major challenge that will be an obstacle to Team Kenya’s chances of winning at the Paris Olympics as the track and field events start on Friday, August 2.

After their arrival in Paris, France for the Olympics, Sang noted that so far, this is the best team Athletics Kenya selected for the Olympic Games and he is certain they will do well on the global stage.

The women’s 800m team comprises Moraa, Lilian Odira and Vivian Chebet while the men comprise Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Wycliffe Kinyamal and Koitatoi Kidali.

Sang noted that the weather in Paris and that of Nairobi is very different and the heat might affect the athlete’s performance but they will work around the clock with the aim of finishing in the podium.

“After the trials, we went for a camp and if you compare the weather between Nairobi and Paris, the former is a bit cold but we prepared well and we have very good athletes,” Sang said.

“This is the best team that was selected in Nairobi after the trials and we are okay and doing well. However, the weather here is giving us a nightmare but we shall work hard and do better. The only challenge we have is the difference in the weather in Nairobi and Eldoret and Paris is very different,” he added.

He added that the team has been training well and back the men’s and women’s 10,000m teams to win medals despite facing opposition from the Ethiopians and Ugandans.

The women’s team comprises Beatrice Chebet, Lilian Kasait and Margaret Chelimo while the men comprise Daniel Mateiko, Nicholas Kimeli and Bernard Kibet.

“We monitored the Nairobi team and trust that they will do well and from today, we shall start seeing the effort they put in. Every event has its own winner and for us, we have prepared well and I’m sure that in the 10,000, we shall bring home a medal,” Sang said.
