Noah Lyles failed to live up to his promise of breaking a record at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston following defeat to homeboy Oblique Seville and Jamaican fans were quick to remind him.
Jamaican fans have aimed subtle digs at world 100m and 200m champion Noah Lyles for bragging about his intentions to break a world record following his loss to youngster Oblique Seville on Saturday.
Seville recorded a world leading time of 9.82 to win the 100m race at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica with Lyles coming second in 9.85 while Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala completed the podium after clocking 10.02.
The win came hours after Lyles had promised to run one of the fastest times on Jamaican soil as he targeted Yohan Blake’s 9.75 seconds, the fastest 100m time ever recorded at the National Stadium, and the Jamaicans were keen to remind him.

Noah Lyles irked by 'gunmen' following loss to Jamaican wunderkind Oblique Seville
Noah Lyles has expressed satisfaction with his performance but has been irked by the gunmen's unprofessionalism at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica.
“Silencing those bragging to break the WR [World Record]. Congratulations. Usain Bolt never bragged even during his heydays on the track,” said a Jamaican fan.
Another one said: “Noah Lyles says he will soon brake Bolt’s record and 9.82 still beats him. Chats too much when his fastest 100m is 9.83.”
“Thought Noah was unbeatable. Bring it on. Great one Seville. I pray you stay fit till Olympics to deliver,” replied another fan.
“Noah should just run and not talk and I also highlighted the fact that Noah is a 200m king and the 100m is a whole different race. I knew that breaking Blake's record on that track could never be a walkover but better luck next time for Noah,” was the observation of another supporter.
“Yeah [Seville did it] with pride and no showboating unlike the one from the USA, Noah.”
Some Jamaican fans now see Seville as the best hope for the country at the Paris Olympics as the country bids to reclaim the 100m title from the Americans.
