He made his marathon debut at last year’s Amsterdam Marathon where he finished a disappointing 18th.

After a good display at the Nairobi City Marathon that saw him finish second, Charles Yosei Muneria is now inspired to make a switch to the full marathon.

Muneria was in a class of his own in just but his second marathon as he finished second in a Personal Best time of 2:08:04. Robert Kipkemboi carried the day as he cut the tape in 2:07:38 while Robert Kipkorir sealed the podium in 2:08:11.

He made his marathon debut at last year’s Amsterdam Marathon where he finished a disappointing 18th but he changed the narrative at the second edition of the Nairobi City Marathon, something that has given him more confidence to compete in more marathon races.

“I thank God for finishing second at the Nairobi City Marathon…it has proven to me that I can also do well in the marathon apart from the track and half marathons. I want to go and discuss with my manager so that we can know where I’ll be competing next.

I have officially switched to the marathon and going forward, people should expect to see me in more 42km races. I will be competing in track races once in a while but I have officially changed my specialty,” Muneria said.

He described the Nairobi City Marathon course as a smooth one with no challenges but recalled that the field of athletes in the marathon was a tough one and he had to fight for the second-place finish.

“The race was very good but also very competitive. I remember getting to a point where I didn’t really know my position but I kept pushing forward. At the 39km mark, Kipkemboi parted from the leading pack and I decided to follow him,” he recalled.

Muneria has had successes on the track and road races and he will be keen to extend the hot streak as he officially begins his full marathon journey.
