Waithaka will replace newly-crowned World 5000m bronze medallist Jacob Krop who is out due to an injury.

The 2022 World 10,000m silver medallist Stanley Waithaka is the latest addition to Team Kenya for the World Athletics Road Running Championships scheduled for September 30 to October 1 in Riga, Latvia.

As reported by Nation Sport, Waithaka will replace newly-crowned World 5000m bronze medallist Jacob Krop who is out due to an injury.

Waithaka will be competing in the 5km road race alongside Nicholas Kimeli and Cornelius Kemboi with the hope of bringing glory back to the country.

He was not in his best form at the start of the season and that forced him to skip the World Championships national trials. However, currently, he seems to be back on track and he will be in action at the Diamond League Meeting in Brussels on Friday.

Other replacements include Kyumbe Munguti who will stand in for the 2019 World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot who is taking a break from competitions. Munguti will team up with Abel Kipsang and reigning World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot in the Road Mile.

Reigning Vienna City Marathon champion Samwel Mailu will replace Alexander Mutiso in the men’s Half Marathon.

He will join Bernard Kibet, World 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu, Sabastian Sawe, and Charles Langat. The women's team remains untouched.
