The 1996 Olympic 100m champion slammed the American outlet for referring to Noah Lyles as the fastest man in the world as he aimed a dig at the triple world champion.

Former Canadian sprinter Donovan Bailey has slammed US outlet NBC for claiming Noah Lyles is the fastest man in the world this year.

The 1996 Olympic 100m champion explained that it comes as disrespect to Kishane Thompson and Ferdinand Omanyala who are the top sprinters this season.

Thompson is currently the fastest man in the world with the 9.77 that he ran at the Jamaican Olympic trials. On his part, Omanyala is the second fastest man in the world, thanks to his 9.79 at the Kenyan Olympic trials.

Bailey also aimed a dig at Lyles, noting that Oblique Seville probably stays rent free in his head after the Jamaican youngster beat him at the Racers Grand Prix.

“They regard him as the fast man in the world and I’m very certain that one Kishane Thompson is smiling and he isn’t saying something and I’m pretty sure that Oblique Seville, who is living rent-free in Noah’s head has something to say about the fastest man,” Bailey told Nationwide90 FM.

“Ferdinand Omanyala has also run very fast this year and there’s a couple of guys that are hovering around the 9.80 to 9.85 or 9.88 mark that’s going to say some things about that,” he added.

NBC Sports started the beef when they shared a video of Lyles on his birthday, claiming that he is currently the fastest man on earth. However, world record holder Usain Bolt is the fastest man on earth.

He achieved the honours at the 2009 World Championships where he clocked 9.58 to cross the finish line in the men’s 100m.

“The fastest man on Earth is coming for the Olympic crown. 👑⚡️. Happy birthday to the reigning world 100m champion, Noah Lyles!” the caption read.
