Brittany Brown has finally made a statement with a dominant win in the women's 200m over Olympic champion Gabby Thomas in New York.

Brittany Brown will undoubtedly be the next big thing in the women’s 200m following her impressive progression this year, which has seen her end her season on a high.

Competing in her final race of the season, Athlos, the women-only track event, the Olympic 200m bronze medallist had a great start from the blocks, but Gabby Thomas caught up with her as the race progressed.

However, having a great start gave the American confidence to keep going and despite having Gabby Thomas ahead of her at the home straight, Brittany Brown managed to accelerate and sprinted past the triple Olympic champion close to the finish line.

Brittany Brown clocked a stunning 22.18 seconds to cross the finish line ahead of Gabby Thomas who was forced to settle for second place in a time of 22.21 seconds. Anavia Battle completed the podium, clocking a stunning 22.34 seconds to cross the finish line.

Both star runners have enjoyed an amazing 2024 season and will be looking to continue their winning ways to 2025 with the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, the main event to look forward to.

Brown had her moment of breakthrough at the Paris Olympic Games after finishing second behind Thomas at the US Olympic trials. At the Olympics, she went on to secure third place behind Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred who was just fresh from winning the gold medal in the women's 100m.

Brittany Brown was not done making waves as she went on to the Diamond League Meetings, racing at the meeting in Rome where she claimed top honours before finishing second at the Grand Prix Lombardia. At the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, she threw down the gauntlet and proceeded to a dominant victory in the tight race.

On her part, Gabby Thomas has also had a great season, winning three Olympic gold medals in the women's 200m, 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. After the Olympics, the American did not compete in any event and her second-place finish underlines how lethal she could have been if she trained or raced before Athlos.

She now ends her season with a second-place finish and her main goal next season will be to go one place better from her silver medal at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
