Asher-Smith fended off competition from the likes of Tamari Davis and Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith to sail to victory in the women's 100m at the Laussane Diamond League classic.
After the disappointment of missing out on the 100m final at the Paris Olympics, Britain's Dina Asher-Smith made a triumphant return to the track at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday night.
The 24-year-old sprinter put her Olympic woes behind her, cruising to a decisive victory in the 100m with a time of 10.88 seconds.
Asher-Smith's performance was nothing short of commanding as she outpaced a competitive field. USA's Tamari Davis finished second, clocking 10.97 seconds, while Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji took third place with a solid performance.
Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith came in fourth, narrowly missing out on the podium, while Asher-Smith's compatriot, Daryll Neita, had a challenging race, finishing seventh with a time of 11.20 seconds.
"It´s always great to be in Switzerland and the Swiss crowd is so warm and welcoming. After the Olympics I took some time to refocus and now I´m just enjoying running, feeling fit and injury free," Asher-Smith said after the race.
"I´m excited to push on to the two next meets in Silesia and Zurich where the track and atmosphere were amazing. Plus there´s always chocolate.
For Tamari Davis, the race marked a significant comeback. Having missed out on a spot in the US Olympic team, the Lausanne meet was her first since the trials. Despite the setback, Davis remained optimistic about her performance.
"It went well tonight. I’m just trying to bounce back after not making the Olympic team, and I’m pleased with the result," Davis reflected. "This was my first race back, and I’m happy and healthy—that’s what matters most. I love being in Lausanne; the atmosphere is always great. I’m happy to be back."
