Former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei has shared her interest in being selected in the marathon team for the Olympic Games.

Former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei has expressed her interest in representing the country at the Olympic Games in Paris, France next year.

The 29-year-old has been battling a series of injuries but disclosed that she is ready to return to the Olympic Games. She opened her season at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon where she finished fourth.

The Olympic Games silver medallist then proceeded to the London Marathon but failed to finish the race due to an injury. Her final race of the season was the New York City Marathon where she finished fourth.

Kosgei finished second behind Peres Jepchirchir in the marathon during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and if she gets a chance to be selected, she will definitely go put her best foot forward.

“I hope I will be chosen to represent my country…I hope to be selected and I will be happy to represent my country. If they don’t select me, I won’t mind,” she said.

The 2019 Chicago Marathon champion then explained that she was not aware of the selection criteria that would be used to select the athletes.

“I do not know the selection criteria they will use to select the team this time around. I know they will want to select a strong team…when you win a major race, you will definitely be selected,” she said.

Meanwhile, Athletics Kenya disclosed that a formidable marathon team for the Paris Olympic Games will be named at the end of the year.

Athletics Kenya Youth and Development chairman Barnaba Korir explained that AK would be keen to unveil six athletes and allow the team to prepare well for the showpiece, which is one of the most lucrative events in the world.
