Botswana's Nijel Amos is targeting a triumphant track return post-suspension aiming to prove resilience and reclaim top status in upcoming competitions.

Botswana's 2012 Olympic 800m silver medallist Nijel Amos has vowed to make a successful return to the track when his ban ends.

Amos, who earned his country's first-ever Olympic medal in London, faced a setback in his athletic career following a suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in May 2023.

The ban was due to the detection of a banned substance, GW1516, in his system during an out-of-competition test. This substance is known to alter how the body metabolizes fat and is considered a health risk by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The 29-year-old runner's suspension, which dates back to his provisional suspension on July 12, 2022, is set to end on July 11, 2025.

Despite the challenges, Amos is gearing up for what he describes as a powerful comeback.

"After three years away, I'm filled with anticipation and excitement as I prepare to return to competition next season. The journey has been challenging, but I’ve persevered, dedicating myself fully to honing my skills and embracing my talent," Amos wrote.

Amos's enthusiasm for his return is palpable as he looks forward to competing again on the global stage.

"Every moment of hard work has been driven by the belief that I belong at the top. I can't wait to showcase my progress and make a powerful comeback, proving that with resilience, hard work, and passion, any obstacle can be overcome," he added.

The sprinter's optimism extends beyond mere participation, as he aims to reclaim his status among the elite.

His target is clear: the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Japan, where he plans to demonstrate the fruits of his relentless training and mental preparation during his suspension.

His past accolades, including a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and numerous victories on the Diamond League circuit underline his capabilities.
