The 2018 World Under-20 3000m SC silver medallist Leonard Bett believes he still has more to do as far as training is concerned ahead of major events like the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

With the track and field athletics season hitting top gear, the highly rated athlete wants to maximize on remaining time to ensure he is fully fit.

During the second Athletics Kenya meet at the Nyayo National Stadium over the weekend, Bett settled for third place in the men’s 3000m SC. He clocked 8:31.55 to cross the finish line behind World Under-20 3000m SC champion Amos Serem (8:29.73).

The 2021 World Under-20 3000m SC bronze medallist Simon Koech ran away with the first position as he timed 8:26.81.

“The season is just new and I have started training recently. I am getting ready for major assignments ahead and this race was to help me know where I stand,” Bett said.

He revealed that he will mainly focus on his speedwork and also polish his techniques in jumping the barriers. The AK meet was Bett’s first competition of the season.

On his part, Koech was happy to have bagged top honours and noted that he will also dig deep into training as he awaits other assignments.

He said discipline and hard work were the key things that propelled him to victory in the highly contested race.

“With the upcoming races, I want to train hard so that I cane post much better results,” he said.
