The 2021 Boston Marathon champion Benson Kipruto is expecting tough opposition at the Paris Olympics.

Reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto is setting his sights high for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games predicting a Kenyan sweep in the marathon event that could overshadow their long-time rivals, the Ethiopians.

Kipruto, who recently clinched victory in Tokyo with a stellar time of 2:02.16, is keen to translate his recent achievements into Olympic success.

The victory in Japan solidified his reputation as one of the world's premier long-distance runners a status he aims to enhance further on the grand stage in Paris.

"Making the team to Paris is a dream come true. The Paris Olympics marathon will be a tactical race because it is a championship event. I have run in similar events like Boston, which don’t use pacemakers, and we need to execute the tactics to perfection. I bet on a Kenya 1-2-3 finish," Kipruto stated confidently as per Citizen TV.

The marathoner's ambition stems not only from his recent victory in Japan but also from a series of successful outings on the international stage.

Since bursting onto the marathon scene, Kipruto has notched impressive wins at the 2021 Boston Marathon and the 2022 Chicago Marathon, among other accolades.

Each race, he believes, has been a stepping stone leading him to the grand stage of the Olympics.

Kipruto's recent performance at the 2023 Chicago Marathon, where he finished second behind the record-breaking Kelvin Kiptum, has further fueled his confidence.

“Racing with the late Kiptum in the Chicago Marathon really propelled my self-belief because it was my first race at a world record pace. I eventually finished second behind the winner, who shattered the world record. The race gave me the morale to run a personal best, winning the Tokyo marathon, and that is the confidence I carry into Paris,” he reflected.

Born in Tolilet, Mosop, Nandi County, Kipruto's journey has been marked by a consistent improvement in his performances, achieving personal bests in nearly every marathon he has entered.

At 33 years old, Kipruto has been on a steady climb in his career, achieving personal bests in most marathons he has participated in.

His journey began to gain significant momentum back in 2016 when he finished second at the Athens Classic Marathon.

Over the years he has remained a consistent top contender, with impressive finishes in Prague, Toronto, and more recently in Boston and Chicago.
