This year's Boston Marathon is scheduled for Monday, April 17.
Despite being his fourth time competing on the course, the 2022 Chicago Marathon champion Benson Kipruto is anticipating a tough show when he lines up on Monday, April 17 for the Boston Marathon.
Kipruto revealed that running without pacemakers will be a bit challenging as they play a crucial role during the race. He added that the Boston course is also a tough one because of the hills.
“Racing this year will be a huge challenge because there will be no pacemakers. The course itself is also tough because of the uphill and downhill. There will be a lot of challenges on the way,” he explained.
Kipruto made his debut at the Boston Marathon in 2019 where he could only afford a 10th-place finish in 2:09:53. He returned in 2021 where he won in 2:09:51 and settled for third place during last year’s edition (2:07:27).
In the race, he will be joined by his training mate, Evans Chebet, who is also the defending champion. The world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge will also be in the mix and Kipruto is over the moon to be racing alongside him.

The men’s field this year has attracted some elite athletes including defending champion Evans Chebet.
“I feel so honoured to race with Kipchoge…it’s something amazing and something to be happy about it,” he said
Kipruto believes that having an idea about the course places him at an added advantage if he is to beat Kipchoge. He revealed that he will be keen to work with Chebet in order to accomplish a podium finish.
“Anything can happen during the race but I believe my mastery of the course will enable me to accomplish some of my targets. It’s great to work together with him (Chebet) to see how the race will be and help each other. We might, maybe, beat him (Kipchoge),” he said.
The 32-year-old is not shaken by the weather conditions ahead of Monday’s race. He bullishly said they will have to compete regardless.
