Sha'Carri Richardson shared the reason behind her motivation to turn professional despite discouragement from many people.

Sha'Carri Richardson once admitted to struggling with turning professional since she had no idea of what to anticipate in her shift.

The reigning world 100m champion wanted to make reforms before making the decision but she found herself in the middle of all the chaos and had to adapt the best way she knew how to.

She admitted that it was abit of an uncomfortable situation since she had just had one record-breaking season at the Louisiana State Univeristy.

In High School, Sha'Carri Richardson had been outstanding, winning the 100 and 200m titles with Carter High School and then joining LSU in 2018.

In 2019, she reached the final of the NCAA Indoor Championships, and also attained a huge milestone outdoors, breaking the collegiate record in 10.75 seconds.

This saw her improve the 42-year-old world U20 best in the distance. She then turned professional mid-2019, signing with Nike.

In a past interview with Tempo Journal, Sha'Carri Richardson said: "Definitely, those risks, those decisions made me uncomfortable but I guess I have noticed from just in my past that when change comes you're supposed to be uncomfortable but when you make a change, you get different results.

"Also being uncomfortable keeps me on my toes, it also makes me not satisfied."

She added that people cautioned her from turning professional at such a young age but her nature of exploring could not let her wait.

Richardson wanted to do what seemed impossible and she took that decision boldy and at the time, signing with a giant brand like Nike was a dream for many.

The one thing she noticed is that people are expected to act the same or go through the same challenges once they turn professional, since everyone has their own personality about how they handle different situations.

That's the one thing she wanted to change since some people never turned professional due to the discouragement or they had a negative opinion as they made the bold move.

"Like most people when they transition from college to professional, it does take them a while and I hear that or when I was in college, 'oh yeah you're freshman so transitioning over to the professional may be a little tricky' and it's just like everyone is different," Richardson said.

"You can't just box all of us in a box or you can't box everyone in a box because of how you experience the situation and I always take that as ammunition to be different, to beat the system, to make a new norm."

The reigning Olympic 100m silver medallist has had her fair share of struggles after turning professional but she has risen through the challenges to make a name for herself.
