Chebet opened her track season with a dominant win during the Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold-level meeting.

Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet is hoping to kickstart her Diamond League campaign on a good note as she heads to Oslo, Norway on Thursday, June 15.

Chebet opened her track season with a dominant win during the Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level meeting, held on May 13 in Nairobi.

She then competed in the 1,500m at the Kenya Police Championships where she displayed class to win the race. Her next port of call is the Diamond League Meeting in the Scandinavian country where she intends to turn heads as she competes in the 3,000m.

“I competed in the 1,500m to gauge how my body feels and also improve my speed. I am happy with the time I posted because it was my first time racing in the 1,500m. When I go to Oslo, I want to set a new Personal Best time, that’s my main goal,” Chebet said.

Her PB in the 3,000m currently stands at 8:27.14 and she will be campaigning to shave off some seconds from the time.

Going forward, the 23-year-old will be hoping to make a mark at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where she will be competing in the 5,000m.

She finished second during last year’s edition in Oregon and she will be seeking to go one step better. The world cross-country champion added that she will also be hoping to retain her Diamond League title.

“My main focus is on the World Championships where I want to improve on my performance. After that, I will now shift my focus to the Diamond League final where I want to lift the trophy,” she said.
