Chebet, 23, crossed the finish line in a World leading time of 8:24.05, which was also a Meeting record.

World 5000m bronze medallist Beatrice Chebet sprinted to the finish line in the women’s 3000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen with her win being a colossal morale booster as she gears up to defend her Diamond League Final Trophy.

Chebet, 23, crossed the finish line in a World leading time of 8:24.05, which was also a Meeting record. Mexico’s Laura Galvan finished second in a national record time of 8:28.05 as Ethiopia’s Aynadis Mebratu finished third in a Personal Best time of 8:29.88.

In an interview after the race, Chebet disclosed that the win was motivation for her as she sought to defend her Diamond League Trophy.

During last year’s edition of the final in Zurich, Switzerland, Chebet was in a class of her own as she destroyed a strong field to win the race in 14:32.00.

“I am very happy to break my season's best as well as my personal best. I was the Diamond League Final winner and I still feel motivated and I believe that I can do it.

"There are a lot of fans being there to support us. I think the stadium and the audience are really good,” she said.

She added that her targets were met and she would now return home a smiling girl. When asked about where she gets the energy for her final kick in the races, Chebet said she just has it in her and it has nothing to do with the type of training she does.

“I think it’s natural…I fail to also understand where it comes from but I believe this is just who I am,” Chebet said.
