In her glittering career, Chebet has won gold medals at the World Cross-country Championships, African Championships, World Under-20 Championships, and the Commonwealth Games. She has a silver and bronze medal from the World Championships and is yet to make an appearance at the Olympic Games.

Speaking after her dominant victory at the National Police Cross-country Championships, the 23-year-old explained that she has been in the form of her life and she wants to continue with the same trend until she arrives at the Stade de France.

“The race has not been bad though there was tough competition. My main goal running today was to bag the title since last year I finished fifth.

"The season started well for me and I expect to go defend my title in Serbia. I closed my year with a world record and I won the cross country in Elgoibar and my body is responding well.

"The Olympic Games are my main aim and I want to go and fight for the gold medal because I have always been winning silver and bronze. This time around, I’m aiming for a gold medal,” Chebet said.

The reigning World 5000m bronze medallist added that she will sharpen her talons diligently and believe in herself. She added that breaking the world record was a sign that she could do anything either on the track or the roads.

“I will be training normally and I also have to believe in myself…anything is possible. Everything has its own timing, be it a world record or winning a gold medal,” she said.

She added that she will train with the focus on the major events and that’s how she plans to maintain her form.
