Ackera Nugent is sharpening her skills and prioritising health as she prepares to challenge top hurdlers like Masai Russell and Tobi Amusan on the world stage.

Jamaica’s next big thing in hurdling Ackera Nugent has disclosed the few things she needs to work on to challenge Masai Russell, Tobi Amusan and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn among other top hurdlers.

Ackera Nugent has been making waves this indoor season and she currently holds the world-leading time of 7.75 seconds that she set at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF.

She started her indoor campaign with a fourth-place finish at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix before being disqualified from the Millrose Games.

After the disappointment, she went to France and set a world-leading time before winning the 60m hurdles at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup.

Despite the fine form, Ackera Nugent believes that there are a few things she needs to work on to be unbeatable. She added that good health is also on top of her list of priorities since injuries will mean she will be forced to postpone her goals.

“I have a couple of months to think about what next year will bring and I’m just focused on this year so hopefully we see how my coach takes next season,” Ackera Nugent said after the race at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup.

“The main goal is to work on the little things and be a bit more confident in myself, my speed and to be healthy, the most important thing.”

After the race in Poland, Ackera Nugent explained that she was exhausted from all the travelling but noted that the crowd was amazing.

The Jamaican revealed that her time and performance were impressive and she will just pick it up from where she has left off in her next race.

“I feel so tired, this is my second meet going back-to-back, I’m just trying to turn around coming from Paris, two days ago basically and the drive is still there,” Ackera Nugent revealed.

“This place is really nice…I’ve not gotten to go outside because it’s really cold but for the stadium and everybody that is here I really do like the support. I love Europe and when everybody just comes out to support the athletes.”

Nugent has confirmed that she will be representing Jamaica at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China and the build-up is looking great so far.
