Focus now shifts to the Nairobi City Marathon on July 2 before the national trials.
Athletics Kenya Nairobi region chair Barnaba Korir has lauded National champion Wiseman Were for his remarkable results during the AK National Championships over the weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The KDF officer clocked an impressive 48.52 to cross the finish line in the 400m Hurdles race and also qualify for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Korir noted that Were’s performance was a true definition of the growing sprints in the country and it will be a morale booster for other upcoming athletes.
“I am particularly impressed with Wiseman Were who attained the qualification mark of the World Championships in 400m hurdles. That is a very big win for our sprints,” Korir posted on his Facebook page.
He also congratulated all the other athletes who showed up and displayed great results as they get ready for the national trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The trials are scheduled for July 7 and 8.
“The three-day event which brought the curtains down on the local track and field action lived up to its billing with some exhilarating performances that saw new champions crowned while others retained their titles.
While it was our national championships, this event was more of a continental championship as we had foreign athletes from Uganda, Botswana, Seychelles, Eswatini, and even South Africa who competed,” the post continued.
He also extended a hand of gratitude to the Chief Guest Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Infrastructure for finding time to grace the event.
