The 2023 edition is slated for 13th May and is billed to attarct bigger names and crowds than the past editions.
Athletics Kenya Youth Development chairman Barnaba Korir is anticipating a successful edition of the Kip Keino Classic Competition, a World Athletics Continental Tour Meeting, slated for May 13.
Korir, who also doubles up as the event director, said that some of the greatest athletes across the globe have already confirmed participation.
“This year’s Kip Keino Classic is going to be a thriller. Some of the best athletes have already confirmed participation and we shall be sharing their names this week,” Korir said.
Last year’s event was also in a class of its own as it attracted to athletes including tow-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and world 100m champion Fred Kerley.

ATHLETICS Omanyala salivates on breaking own record at Kip Keino Classic
The sprint sensation ran a blistering race in the 100m final of the second Athletics Kenya meet.
Korir revealed that plans are underway to ensure that equipment used for the event will be effective and will be certified by World Athletics to avoid what occurred during the second AK meet at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The second meet saw the fast times set by Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala and Samuel Imeta rejected by World Athletics after the wind gauge gave a contradicting reading that rendered the times posted in the race not fit for ratification.
Omanyala had posted a world leading time of 9.81 seconds as he stormed to victory in the 100m men final while Imeta finished second in 9.94 seconds.

“Last week, we had relevant authorities come to the country to verify our equipment as we prepare for the event. We want to ensure we set up instruments that will effectively work for us. We want equipment that is credible enough,” he said.
