Alexis Ohanian has sparked online buzz with his sharp responses to a troll amid discussions about Gabby Thomas and rival track events.

Sometimes, even tech moguls and sports enthusiasts find themselves in the middle of an internet feud.

Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, recently found himself trading words online after a troll implied he had "lost" track star Gabby Thomas to Michael Johnson’s newly launched Grand Slam Track (GST).

The feud began when an X user taunted Ohanian, saying, “Alexis Ohanian how you let the opps that you hate so much sign the face of your track meet💀💔.”

The jab referred to Thomas, who had initially supported Ohanian’s women-only track meet, Athlos, but later signed on to GST, becoming a central figure in Johnson’s competing event.

Ohanian wasted no time setting the record straight.

“I'm so happy for all the people who have followed Athlos and started investing in the sport! Gabby Thomas deserves everything and more. Weird behavior from you to think anyone would ‘own’ an athlete tbh,” he fired back.

The exchange drew attention from the track and field community, with one fan account calling the interaction.

“This Erin and Alexis beef tho.” Ohanian responded with a sharp retort: “Let the dude clout chase.”

The saga brought renewed focus to Ohanian's Athlos event, which debuted in New York this September, and Michael Johnson’s GST, launched shortly thereafter.

While Ohanian initially expressed excitement about GST, his feelings have been tempered by policy disagreements.

Specifically, he has criticized GST’s rule requiring athletes to seek permission before competing in other leagues.

“Hey Michael Johnson, I loved seeing you + Bill Ackman fast follow ATHLOS by launching Grand Slam Track (great to see more people investing in athletics!), but it’s disappointing you're requiring these women to get permission from you & Bill in order to compete in other leagues. It's not very athlete-friendly,” Ohanian wrote in a post on X.

He continued, “You’re an Olympic legend and I hope you’ll reconsider. It’s so much better for the sport to give these women more options and not fewer — especially while it’s still so under-invested-in.”

Despite their differences, Ohanian hasn’t let the feud overshadow his respect for GST’s promotional efforts.

In a more recent post, he praised their innovative approach to blending track events with cultural experiences.

“Speed Festivals fusing racing and culture" -- I love this new framing for GST. Congrats and I’m looking forward to watching,” he said.

Athlos, meanwhile, has continued to make waves in the track and field world.

The inaugural event was hailed as a success, attracting top talent and laying the foundation for future competitions.

Ohanian has announced plans to expand the event building on its momentum and fostering further investment in women’s athletics.
