Asbel Kiprop is looking to make a mark on the global stage but he has highlighted one of the issues hindering his quest.
Asbel Kiprop believes Kenyan cannot only shine in track events but also field events as he highlighted one major challenge that has slowed down the country’s prospects in the category.
You might be wondering about the Asbel Kiprop I am talking about, and it’s certainly not the three-time world champion. The new Kiprop is a high jumper who is looking to make a mark on the global stage, following in the footsteps of his namesake.
His namesake has won an Olympic title, three world titles and two Diamond League trophies among other achievements. The new Asbel Kiprop, the high jumper, wants to be just like that and he is not taking in any ill advice or negative comments from people.

'Purposeful attempt' - Christian Coleman on the 2019 Christmas shopping delay that saw him miss anti-doping test
Coleman served an 18-monh ban for claims of failing to take a third test, something he protested.
The Africa high jump silver medallist believes that he has the capability to do well but the only challenge he has faced is the unavailability of equipment. Field events in Kenya have for long been overlooked but it’s high time that they are considered.
When you are asked about any field athlete from Kenya, people only know of Julius Yego, the former world champion and Olympic silver medallist. Yego has had a tough journey to the top but today, we are not going to talk about the javelin star but Kiprop, who also wants to chart his way to the top.
He credits his coach for always being there and encouraging him. Kiprop disclosed that the coach shaped how he worked on his physique and technique.
“Coach Chepsongor did a wonderful job. After seeing how I was jumping, he redefined my stance, steps, and body curve, which were in total disarray. He did help me a lot. I am here due to the foundation he laid down,” Asbel Kiprop said in an interview with Athletics News.
“We can perform better with more support from stakeholders. Equipment availability is a major issue. Kenya, as a sporting powerhouse, still lacks modern stadiums with standard amenities.”
He started his professional career in 2018 and since then, Kiprop has been working around the clock and managed to make his first national team at the 2022 African Athletics Championships. He continues to work hard and hoping that links to the other Asbel Kiprop would lead him to global glory.
