After a four-year doping ban, three-time world champion Asbel Kiprop is preparing for a comeback in 2025, aiming to make Kenya’s 5000m team for the World Championships in Tokyo.
Three-time world champion Asbel Kiprop is looking to make a resounding comeback next season and has already started plotting for the same by competing in the Athletics Kenya cross-country meets.
Asbel Kiprop was handed a four-year ban after testing positive for the banned blood booster erythropoietin (EPO) in November 2017 and has been working around the clock to bounce back to winning ways, proving that no man is limited.
The former Olympic champion told Athletics News that he will be running at the third AK cross-country meet in Iten to see how his body will respond as he looks to compete in the National Cross-country Championships.

'I'm not proud of it' - Junelle Bromfield forced to apologize to fiancé Noah Lyles after major engagement blunder
Junelle Bromfield had to make a promise to her fiancé Noah Lyles after forgetting one of the most important things since their highly publicized engagement.
But that is not Asbel Kiprop’s major goal since he will also be out to build up for next season, with his main goal making the cut to the Kenyan team in the men’s 5000m. He hopes to compete at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
“I will be competing in this championship to gauge my heavy body and shake off some weight as part of my preparations for the coming season which I will fully participate as my main target is set for a team Kenya slot in the 5000m race,” Asbel Kiprop said.
“My target for the coming season is to compete in the 5000m race with the aim of making to team Kenya for World Championships in Tokyo and thereafter to shift for the roads,” he added.
This season, he only competed at the AK National Police Service Track And Field Championships where he won his 1500m heats but did not proceed to the final of the race. The event was his first competitive race since 2017.
Meanwhile, during his heydays, Asbel Kiprop was one of the most promising 1500m runners. Asbel Kiprop was awarded the 1500m gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games after the original winner, Rashid Ramzi, tested positive for doping. Asbel Kiprop also won three World Championship titles in the event, in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
