Andrew Alamisi dominated the men’s under-20 8km race at the 2nd Athletics Kenya Cross Country meet in Kapsokwony, aiming to improve his endurance for an upcoming race in Italy.

Andrew Alamisi has revealed the major motivation behind his win in the men’s under-20 8km race at the second Athletics Kenya Cross country weekend meet in Kapsokwony.

The reigning world under-20 5000m champion was in a class of his own as he outsmarted his rivals and claimed top honours in a time of 23:57.33. Cornelius Kipkosgei and Edwin Elkana Kimutai finished second and third respectively, clocking 23:57.54 and 24:09.00.

Competing on home ground, Andrew Alamisi explained that it was his desire to make his family and friends who had gone to watch him proud. He added that the weather was not a problem for him as he is used to competing in such conditions hence the dominant win.

“It’s a great joy to be here and win because people from home were here to cheer me up and I decided to give my all and I’m used to this climate and I knew I would do well,” Andrew Alamisi said after the race.

He is currently gearing up for a race scheduled for November in Italy and has already promised to bring the win back home. Andrew Alamisi pointed out that he needs to work on some aspects before heading out for the event.

The Erick Kogo coached athlete added that the World Under-20 Championships in Peru, Lima, he has yet to race in any other championship or race, noting that the cross country was his first and from that, his body is still responding well hence the confidence of bringing the win to Kenya.

“At the moment, what I want to work on is the speed endurance, that’s the only thing that has affected me but my body is responding very well,” Alamisi said.

“Since the world under-20 championships, there was a race I’m planning to go for in Italy but today I came here to see how my body would respond before I go for that race. I have hope that I will bring gold.”
