Edmund Serem and Matthew Kosgei were impressive in the heats of the men's 3000m Steeplechase at the World Under-20 Championships as they secured commanding wins in their respective races.
Matthew Kosgei and Edmund Serem have punched their tickets to the men’s 3000m steeplechase final after explosive runs in the heats of the race at the World Under-20 Championships in Peru, Lima.
Competing in the first heat, Kosgei was impressive in the race and his effort paid off well with a dominant win in the men’s junior race. He clocked a striking 8:24.64 to win the first heat in great fashion.
Ethiopia’s Berihun Moges finished an impressive second, clocking a personal best time of 8:30.92. Algeria’s Anes Djayahia completed the podium in the hotly contested race, clocking a personal best time of 8:39.10.

Japan’s Tetsu Sasaki and Uganda’s Hosana Chemutai finished fourth and fifth in respective times of 8:41.48 and 8:44.43 to punch their tickets to the final of the race. Others who made the cut to the final in the first heat include India’s Sharuk Khan, Frenchman Ishak Dahmani, and Dutchman Nathan Houwaard.
Competing in Heat Two, Amos Serem’s younger brother Edmund Serem was in a class of his own as he destroyed the strong field to claim the win.
Edmund clocked an impressive 8:46.56 to cross the finish line first ahead of Ethiopia’s Hailu Ayalew who clocked 8:48.14. America’s Wyatt Haughton rounded up the podium, clocking 8:59.09 to cross the finish line.
