One of America's sprint legends has expressed confidence that Kenny Bednarek is ready to challenge Letsile Tebogo and Noah Lyles in the 200m.

Former American sprinter and Olympian Justin Gatlin has shared his thoughts on why he thinks 200m Diamond League Champion Kenny Bednarek is in pole position to challenge for top spot in the 200m event come next year.

American sprinter Kenny Bednarek put up a time of 19.67 seconds to stun Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and clinch men’s 200m final at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.

Bednarek who came in second in the 200m finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics behind Botswana’s Tebogo and ahead of fellow American sprinter Noah Lyles, was out to cause an upset in a race the Olympic champion was tipped tow win.

Former American sprinter and double world champion Justin Gatlin is now convinced that Bednarek’s performance in Brussels is just what he needed to catch up to Tebogo and Lyles.

Gatlin, via his Ready Set Go podcast has tipped Bednarek to have the season of his life come 2025 and dispose of his 200m rivals in Lyles and Tebogo.

“He put together a really good season. I know he kind of wants to get out of silver bracket. It shows consistency and that is the respect that you have to have for his process. It shows that no matter where he is in the world he is one of the best in the world,” said Gatlin.

It takes such moments to capitalize and he did that at the Diamond League. This was a great tester for him that he can go out there and run that time he needs to run to seal those big moments in 2025. He is right up there with them,” said Gatlin.

Bednarek will have replicate more of his heroics at the Diamond League if he is to displace his fellow American sprinter Lyles who considers the 200m event to be his best event and Olympic champion Tebogo.
