Kenyans take convincing wins as 2024 Valsir Mountain Running World Cup gets underway
The Kenyan duo of Patrick Kipngeno and Joyce Njeru claimed victories in the Broken Arrow VK, the first gold label short uphill race as the 2024 Valsir Mountain Running World Cup got underway.
The three-time world champion was then confirmed for the USATF NYC Grand Prix but did not start the race after confusion where after the meet, him and his main sponsor Asics mutually part ways one year into his sponsorship. Kerley signed with Asics in February 2023 when his contract with Nike expired at the end of 2022.

Since then, Kerley had not competed but he bounced back at the US Olympic trials to make the men’s 100m team to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, something that has impressed Johnson. The American legend observed that the 29-year-old has enough confidence when things are going on well on his side and he always shows up when it matters.
“Fred is the biggest mystery here. Supreme confidence when things going well. Currently, it’s not, so not sure of his confidence level. Not good coming into a champs with upheaval like he’s had. But Fred is one of few athletes with ability to turn it around when needed,” Johnson tweeted.
Meanwhile, Kerley will also be looking to make the team in the men’s 200m, noting that his season just started at the Olympic trials. At the US trials, Kerley sported luxury brand Oakley apparel and Nike spikes.
