The four-time world champion detailed why Christian Coleman might not be letting go of the 60m indoor race just yet despite despite having one of the best starts in the 100m.

Two-time Olympic silver medallist Justin Gatlin has explained why Christian Coleman should not drop the indoor races yet despite being one of the most dominant 60m runners ever and having one of the best starts in the 100m.

Speaking on his Ready Set Go podcast, Justin Gatlin pointed out that the fact that Christian Coleman is the defending champion at the World Indoor Championships, he will definitely have to go back and stamp authority again.

The 2004 Olympic champion, however, added that now that he trains with his former coach, Dennis Mitchell, it would be a bit difficult for Christian Coleman to run indoor races since the tactician does not mainly focus on those races.

Justin Gatlin added that, however, Christian Coleman will be at liberty to choose whether he wants to do it or not, but his main focus should certainly be on improving his outdoor races.

“I think so, I mean, you are the defending champion, this is what you’re known for. You are the starter, you are the king of that realm, you have the fastest 60m time ever, the two fastest. I think it’s going to be calling him, you know,” Justin Gatlin said.

“He is in a camp now with Dennis and he is the kind of guy to be like the big picture is outdoors so he always tries to talk his athletes out of running indoors. It doesn’t even matter if they are gunning for the gold, he will be like, ‘We can but we don’t have to but if you want to then go for it.’ I think for Coleman, he just needs to get back to where he is comfortable, so, he is a comfort runner,” he added.

On his part, Rodney Green believes that there will be no need of Christian Coleman running the indoor races since he has already established himself as a dominant 60 runner.

The retired Bahamian sprinter added that Christian Coleman should now be focused on improving his outdoor form and get back to his winning ways of 2019.

“I don’t think he is worried about indoors next season because that’s what he’s known for and he would want to get the rest of it right. He wants to get back to his 2019 reign supreme, he knows he has a coach with the knowledge to get him there and I think when him and Dennis get together they will do that. I think he is going to concentrate on the bigger picture,” he added.
