Justin Gatlin has revealed one quality about Courtney Lindsey that could push him to a stunning 2025 season.
American sprinting legend Justin Gatlin has expressed his excitement about rising star Courtney Lindsey's potential ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. Gatlin, who has closely followed Lindsey's career, believes the young sprinter could make a significant impact on the global stage.
Lindsey recently turned heads with a stellar performance at the Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF) in Berlin, where he clinched the 100-meter win.
Clocking a season-best time of 9.99 seconds, he edged out South Africa’s Olympic finalist Akani Simbine, who finished a mere 0.01 seconds behind. Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme secured third place in 10.11 seconds.

Boldon wrote off Tebogo, Simbine and Omanyala before the Paris 2024 Olympics, stating he did not see them achieving a podium place at the games in the 100 meters.
Though Lindsey represented the US in the 4x100 meter relay heats at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he did not feature in the final race. His Olympic campaign in individual events was also disappointing, as he failed to qualify in the 100 and 200 meters during the US trials, finishing sixth in the 100 meters.
Despite the setbacks, Lindsey has already begun preparing to make amends for his Olympic disappointment, with his sights firmly set on the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Gatlin, speaking on his Ready Set Go podcast, shared why he’s particularly excited to see what Lindsey can do in 2025.
“He ran a nice hundred. Watching him, he got out, had a good start, he was comfortable in his transition, top-end speed looked good, came across the line. I think I expected more from him,” Gatlin admitted.

Bednarek, who nomarly tests different headbands before races, was restricted to using a standard one during the Paris Olympic games.
“I was expecting more from him because he ran 19.7 earlier in the season, and I thought he was going to be unstoppable if he had turned his 200m into a hundred.
Maybe it is just him getting acclimated into a pro athlete, and then now you will see something different in 2025. But his mentality and the way he runs, he might have something in him.”
Lindsey has shown great promise throughout his collegiate and early professional career. In 2023, while representing Texas Tech University, he claimed major victories at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he set personal bests of 9.89 seconds in the 100 meters and 19.86 seconds in the 200 meters.
His season wasn’t without challenges, as his 4x100m relay team was disqualified, but his individual performances stood out.

At the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships that same year, Lindsey reached the semi-finals of the 100 meters and finished third in the 200 meters, recording a time of 19.85 seconds. His impressive run saw him outpace elite sprinters such as Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman.
His international debut came at the Monaco Diamond League in July 2023, where he finished seventh in the 100 meters. Later that year, Lindsey narrowly missed out on making the 200-meter final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, finishing just 0.01 seconds shy of qualifying.
In 2024, Lindsey was selected to compete in the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, where he showcased continued growth and potential. With his focus now on the 2025 season, Lindsey is determined to make his mark on the world stage, with Gatlin confident that the young sprinter is poised for a breakthrough.
As the countdown to Tokyo begins, all eyes will be on Lindsey as he seeks redemption and prepares to challenge the world’s best once again.
