Albert Korir and Viola Cheptoo were invited to visit the UN Headquarters in New York.

The 2021 New York City Marathon champion Albert Korir was honoured to have attended the United Nations global operations this week when they visited the UN Headquarters in New York.

Korir shared his excitement in a post on his Instagram page, noting that he was thrilled to have been invited for an interview by the United Nations.

“Back home again and looking back to a great weekend. I was invited by the United Nations in New York for an interview as well as to discuss about how things are in Kapkitony, Kenya.

Privileged! Thanks, everyone for the support, well wishes, and beautiful photos and tags here on Instagram. Am humbled. Now time to sit back and relax,” he said.

As reported by Nation, Korir sent a message urging the world to maintain global peace. “My message to the world is: let’s not run a world of conflict, wear or hate speech, but let’s impress a running world of peace, humanity, and love,” he said.

Meanwhile, Viola Cheptoo also accompanied Korir and she sent a strong message to the world concerning Gander Based Violence. This follows the brutal murder of Agnes Tirop, who was a piece of talent but her life was cut short due to GBV.

At the just concluded New York City Marathon, Korir finished second in the men’s race, clocking a Personal Best time of 2:06:57. On her part, Cheptoo, a former 1500m runner managed to finish sixth in 2:28:11.
