Alaba Akintola continued his impressive start to the season, as Edose Ibadin made huge comeback breaking the NR.
Nigerian athletes have been in blazing form this year, breaking records or surpassing their career bests at every meet they've competed.
At the New Mexico Team Open, Alaba Akintola blazed to a brilliant Personal Best (PB) and School Record (SR) of 20.63s to finish second in the 200m final.
His performance made him the first Nigerian male athlete to go sub-21s this season, the fastest time in the C-USA, and No. 6 on the NCAA top list this year.
Akintota has been in outstanding form since the season started, as two weeks ago he clocked a 60m PB and SR of 6.59s, the second fastest by a Nigerian behind Favour Ashe.
The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) sophomore student now holds the SR in the 60m, 200m indoor, 100m, and 200m outdoor, making him the best sprinter in the school's history.
Meanwhile, his teammate Esther Isa was close to setting a PB in the women's high jump final, winning the event with a clearance of 1.84m, just 1cm shy of her PB.
Her mark is the best in the C-USA and currently positions her in the top 10 on the NCAA top list of 2023. It is also No. 1 in Nigeria.
Isa competes in the high and triple jump and has worthy prospects of attaining new career feats in the events this year.
Edose Ibadin breaks 1000m National Record
Nigerian Record (NR) holder in the 800m Edose Ibadin made a strong start to the season, racing to 1000m NR of 2:20.34 to finish second in the event.
Ibadin has been off competing actively in the athletics scene for over a year, so coming back with this record-breaking form is very impressive.
The middle-distance runner has his goal on rewriting the record books in all middle-distance events in Nigeria.
